STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming

​This Level 2 course is regulated by Ofqual and meets CIMSPA’s employer-led teaching professional standards as well as being an internationally approved qualification. 

As a swimming teacher, you will be responsible for planning, teaching, and evaluating up to 12 swimmers from non-swimmers up to advanced swimmers (children and adults).

 

The certificate in teaching swimming will develop and expand the vocational and technical skills you gained in the awards course. You will develop your experience to teach competitive swimming strokes, survival and rescue skills, diving, competitive starts and turns.​

 

You will gain the confidence to teach more lessons with a variety of skills and retain current swimmers by offering progressive lessons.  You will be able to teach non-swimmers through to advanced participants.  As an internationally recognised qualification you will be able to take your swimming teaching career around the world!

We deliver our course precisely when it’s needed, ensuring you receive and timely training specifically designed for you. Your learning experience is our priority, and we focus on what truly matters to achieve your.

Unfortunately, we don't offer this course on a regular basis at our location in Aviemore. 

Would you like a course delivered nearer to you? We require a minimum number of learners, a suitable venue with an appropriate room for theory delivery and a swimming pool or open water site with facilities for changing and showering. Pre-Course Requirements:

To take the Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 16 years of age

  • Hold the STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming or acceptable equivalent. (Please note the Swim England Level 1 Award in Aquatic Teaching is not an acceptable entry requirement).

Swimming Together

More Information:

In Person Learning: You will complete a minimum of five full days in person in Aviemore or a location of your choosing for bespoke courses. You will participate in a mixture of theory based learning and practical teaching to your peers on the course and children / adults. Each day of the course will have in water practical teaching elements.

Assessment: You will complete a course portfolio, worksheets and participate in classroom discussions and activities as part of your learning. You will develop 4x ten-week schemes of work, 7 lesson plans and evaluate 4 lessons you have delivered during your course. The course is tutor assessed throughout with a final 60 minute assessment of your practical teaching by an approved external STA assessor and finally undertake a short multiple choice question paper via the Cirrus platform or in person depending on your course format. 

Courses typically start at 09:00am and finish at 5:30pm - this will be confirmed during booking. Your course tutor will ensure you have all the learning materials you need and provide support with getting set up with the digital multiple choice question paper platform.​

 

 After Your Course:

On completion of your Level 2 Teaching course you will have the required qualification to teach groups of up to 12 swimmers to intermediate level.   
 

You will have the confidence you need to plan, deliver and evaluate a series of progressive and fun swimming lessons.

You will be able to teach a range of aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, water confidence and swimming strokes.
