A Lifesaving Conversation........

Firstly, I’d like to start with sharing our sincerest and deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young children who sadly lost their lives in Solihull and following on with a plea from me to those of you who are adults with young people in your care to have a conversation with them about water safety. Especially cold water, ice and the dangers of frozen lakes, lochs and water. This is a conversation that could save their lives and their friends.

Below are some questions you can ask your young people as a conversation starter:

  1. What is the difference between swimming in a swimming pool and swimming in open water?

  2. Are you aware of the consequences of entering or falling into cold water? (cold water shock, hypothermia)

  3. Can you tell me what you would do if you or one of your friends got into difficulty in open water?
