Swimming in the Outdoors around Aviemore!

The Cairngorms National Park contains four of Scotland’s five highest mountains and is one of the coldest plateaus in Britain. The mountain range can be encrusted with snow and ice all year round! If you are planning a trip to Aviemore and looking to include a spot of wild swimming or dipping here are a few locations to check out whilst you are here:


1. Loch Morlich, Aviemore: A fabulous freshwater loch with long stretches of its shoreline comprising of sandy beaches and the stunning backdrop of the often snow-clad peaks of the Northern Cairngorms.

Charges: £1.50 for up to 3 hours

£2 for all day

£8 for minibuses or coach all day


2. An Lochan Uaine, Aviemore: Remarkably clear water that is green in appearance, legend has it that mischievous fairies wash their clothes in it!

Charges: £1.50 for up to 3 hours

£2 for all day

£8 for minibuses or coach all day


3. Loch An Eilien, Aviemore: Hidden in the forest of Rothiemurchus with its island castle ruin and stunning surrounding forests!

Charges: £4.50 for cars all day

£15 for minibuses all day


4. Loch Insh, Kincraig: Seven miles south of Aviemore, this freshwater loch is usually home to Ospreys!
